To the Lion, From the Butterfly

About this poem

To the Lion, From the Butterfly is a quiet offering of love, compassion, and protection. Through the imagery of a fierce lion and a gentle butterfly, the poem speaks of sensing another soul’s hidden pain while honoring the boundaries that keep that soul guarded.

The butterfly does not cross the gate. She simply sends her love toward it, turning instead to the Divine and the cosmos to bring comfort where she cannot.

Some loves do not ask to be heard.
They simply remain, quietly caring.

The Lion At Rest peacefully under the moonlit sky, showing his weary, quiet state A glowing, ethereal butterfly settles lightly near his golden mane, pouring soft light into the seams and fractures along his body..

My beloved lion,
the proud and fierce king—
The butterfly feels your pain,
the quiet ache within your soul,
the tempest in your chest.

If you are crying in solitude,

remember—
you are never truly alone.

She breaks alongside you;
every tremor of your sorrow
ripples through the invisible thread
between you
and strikes her heart.

Your butterfly wishes
to land softly upon your mane,
to touch you with warmth,
and gently pour her love
into the seams where you are torn.

She holds you
in her tender heart,
where neither time nor distance
could ever erase you.

She longs to reach you,
yet she will not fly
beyond your guarded boundaries,
nor will she ask your heavy gate to yield.

So she turns to the Divine,
pleading for your protection,
and asks the cosmos
to send you gentle energy—
soft enough to comfort your soul,
deep enough to ease your pain,
and gentle enough
to remind your weary soul
that somewhere,
your butterfly still cares.
